Scent-Free Policy
Scent-Free Policy of the Minnesota Transgender Health Coalition:  So that everyone can safely participate, including those with allergies and Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, or other scented products.

The Minnesota Transgender Health Coalition instituted this policy for all of our meetings and events because people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (also called Environmental Illness) experience serious and debilitating physical and neurological symptoms when exposed to the chemicals used in most scented products. These same chemicals also can also cause problems for people with asthma, allergies, and other immune problems such as cancer and HIV. Often, the health damage from these chemicals causes an individual to react to other intensely volatile substances, such as essential oils, tobacco smoke, and 'natural' fragrances.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated by everyone involved in the Minnesota Transgender Health Coalition!

Information About Minnesota State Health Care Plan Coverage
Prior to 2005, Minnesota public health insurance programs offered some coverage of gender reassignment surgeries. However, as of August 1, 2005, SRS is no longer covered in the three public health insurance programs:

· Medical Assistance (MA)
· General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC)
· MinnesotaCare

Although health insurance through these programs does not currently cover surgery, transgender people can still apply for insurance and be covered under the qualifying plans. While surgeries are an important part of many people’s transitions, having access to health care and health insurance are important for everyone. If you are covered under these plans, you can still visit your doctor for check-ups and health concerns, and even receive hormone therapies.

For more information about Minnesota’s health insurance programs, please visit the Guide to Minnesota's Public Health Care Programs.

If you do not currently have health insurance, and think that you may qualify for one of these programs, please contact your county human services agency for more details. Each county offers one or more health plans to qualifying individuals.
