KEYNOTE SPEAKERS:   Provider Day: Lisa O'Connor, MD    Community Day: Yoseñio Lewis

Dr. Lisa O'Connor
"The Many Faces of Transition"
FRIDAY, MAY 14 from 11:00 a.m. to Noon

Dr. Lisa O'Connor is a board-certified family practice physician and a certified cognitive behavioral therapist. She is one of the foremost experts in the field of gender variant counseling and medical care. When Dr. O'Connor transitioned in 2005, she found a significant lack of medical and psychological support available. She has not only worked towards giving that needed support through the opening of her own practice but also through consistent education everywhere from middle schools to medical schools. She regularly speaks with health care providers and government agencies to further efforts towards education and acceptance. While working as a Family Practice physician and acting as a consultant Dr. O'Connor learned of the great need for well educated and compassionate physicians to the GLBT community, their family, friends, and colleagues. This observation ultimately led to the creation of Healthy Transitions in March of 2006.

SATURDAY, MAY 15 from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m.

Yoseñio Lewis is a dark skinned Latino of African descent female to male transsexual who has been a social justice activist since he was 13 years old. Yoseñio is a member of the Community Advisory Board for the Center of Excellence for Transgender HIV Prevention. He also serves on the San Francisco AIDS Office Research Division's Transgender Community Consultants Working Group, focusing on improving access to HIV vaccine trials for trans people.  Yoseñio is also a co-founder of Big Boys' Ink Productions, a theatrical writing and performing company. He is also a co-founder of "The TransAms," a barbershop quartet composed of transsexual men. Yoseñio has been a subject of several documentaries, most recently "Diagnosing Difference," a full-length documentary featuring interviews with 12 diverse scholars, activists and artists who identify on the trans spectrum (transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, and gender variant) about the impact and implications of the Gender Identity Disorder (GID) on their lives and communities.  Other documentaries include Christpher Lee's "Trappings of Transhood," the television channel A&E's "Transgender Revolution," "The Believers," a documentary about the Transcendence Gospel Choir and "Transforming Healthcare," a short highlighting the issues that trans people face when accessing healthcare. Yoseñio believes that there can be no art without activism and no activism without art.
